Geopolitical watch

Robert Zoellick spoke at the Foreign Policy Research Institute. He wants the US to develop an economic strategy to go with its security strategy. India finds little mention. Importance of China is stressed.

Is it time for a WW III watch? Saudi Arabia cuts all ties with Iran. Ties worsen after it executes a Shiite cleric. Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, predicted “divine vengeance” for the execution of Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr.

Bilahari (nice raaga) Kausikan’s article on the geopolitical uncertainty is more interesting for what it does not say than for what it says.

On geopolitical risks, like Mr. Kausikan’s piece, Howard Davies’ piece too is important for what it omits to spell out.

Ian Bremmer’s interview to the CFA Institute magazine on geopolitical risks is a good read. He predicts that the current G-0 world would last ten years. He calls India an excellent pivot state. That is good news for Indians. This piece has to be read together with the previous two pieces.

People are suppressing their worst fears out of the fear that merely articulating them would make them come true. Perhaps, they are doing a dissservice to the governments around the world. Of course, I am assuming that world leaders are willing to listen. Big assumption.
